При подаче заявления на работу (*letter of application*) недопустимы разговорные сокращения и сленг (*Hi, really want, ad*). В письме другу, напротив, неуместны канцелярские клише (*Please confirm whether you will be available, Yours sincerely*). * **Упражнение 5:** * Фразы со словами *disappointing*, *look forward to explaining* выражают мягкую претензию (**mild tone**). * Слова *appalling* (ужасный), *extreme dissatisfaction* (крайнее недовольство), *demand an immediate refund* (требую немедленного возврата) и *must insist* (должен настоять) выражают жесткую позицию (**strong tone**). * **Упражнение 7 (Clauses of concession):** 1. **Despite** требует после себя существительного или герундия (*-ing* form): *Despite calling...* 2. **Nevertheless** используется в начале самостоятельного предложения и выделяется запятой. 3. **but** — сочинительный союз, соединяющий две части сложносочиненного предложения. 4. **In spite of the fact (that)** используется перед полноценным придаточным предложением (подлежащее + сказуемое: *the brochure said...*).
