#### **Exercise 8**
**1.** Every country has its own holidays and festivals. In Russia, we celebrate New Year, Christmas, Maslenitsa, Victory Day and many other holidays. We have a strong tradition of celebrating Women's Day on the 8th of March. On this day, all women receive gifts, we throw parties and cook special dishes. If you visit your friends, do not forget beautiful flowers for the mother of the family. A national holiday of the whole country is Victory Day, which we celebrate on the 9th of May. In the morning, we watch the parade on Red Square on TV, and in the evening we watch various fireworks, as well as open-air performances and concerts that take place in parks and main squares. There are many regional festivals in Russia, for example, Watermelon Day in Astrakhan and Cucumber Day in Suzdal. On these days, various contests are held, and everyone can take part in them and win a prize. Children's favourite holiday is New Year. They decorate Christmas trees, set off party poppers (crackers), throw streamers, and put on masks and fancy dress costumes. Adults also love this holiday: they dress up, exchange gifts and take photos. It is the most cheerful family holiday.
**2.** The annual carnival on the island is a very colourful sight. The islanders strictly stick to their traditions: putting on monster masks for the carnival, dressing up (everything from fruit to old furniture and tableware is used for costumes) and having fun.

### Объяснение и правила
1. **Exercise 5 (Времена глаголов и маркеры):**
* В предложении 2 говорится, что это первый раз для Сары (*it's her first time*), следовательно, она **никогда** раньше не была на фестивале (*never*).
Present Perfect* (**has bought**).
* В предложении 7 для указания периода времени (*an hour* — период продолжительностью в час) используется предлог **for**, тогда как *since* используется только с точкой отсчета времени (например, *since 2 o'clock*).
2. **Exercise 6 (Относительные местоимения и придаточные предложения — Relative Clauses):**
* **why** указывает на причину (*the reason why...*);
* **where** указывает на место (*the hotel where...*);
* **when** указывает на время (*a time when...*);
* **which** заменяет неодушевленные предметы (*floats which...*);
* **whose** показывает принадлежность (*a house whose garden...*);
* **who** относится к людям (*those who...*).
